Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh government employees to be given benefit of Seventh Pay Commission

New Delhi: After the division of Jammu and Kashmir, all the existing employees in the new state-run Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, which are governed by the Center, will receive salaries and allowances as per the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.




Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the proposal regarding salaries and allowances as per the Seventh Pay Commission for Government employees of the new states administered by the Center. The decision will benefit more than 4 lakh 50 thousand civil servants and will cost an estimated Rs 4,400 crore. The Interior Ministry has issued an order.

It is noteworthy that the central government had decided to split Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 to form two new state-run states. Both these states will come into force from October 31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a message sent to the nation on August 8 that government employees of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir would also be benefited from the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.

After the proposal was approved, all the allowances such as educational allowance for children, hostel allowance, transport allowance, LTC allowance, fixed medical allowance, as per the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission to the existing 4.5 million government employees in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
